FINANCE
Health insurance: Everything you need to know to reduce your fitness costs
In Switzerland, wellness and prevention are top priorities, and regular physical activity is strongly encouraged to stay in shape. However, most fitness memberships are still paid for by the user. So what options are there to reduce your membership costs?
Support for sports enthusiasts
Although Swiss basic health insurance (LAMal) does not cover fitness costs, many supplementary insurances offer specific benefits to encourage physical activity. By choosing the right supplementary insurance, you can obtain up to 75% reimbursement, subject to certain conditions.
Variable ceilings and criteria
Each supplementary insurance offers reimbursement options with different ceilings and percentages. Some cover up to CHF 800 per year for fitness memberships, provided you meet certain criteria. Take the time to compare the benefits offered by the different supplementary insurances to identify the one that best meets your sporting needs.
Long-term savings
For those who practice fitness on a regular basis, taking out supplementary insurance can offer interesting savings. In addition to fitness, some supplementary insurances include additional benefits for prevention, outpatient care or general well-being, enabling you to optimize your health and fitness expenses.
If you'd like to find out more, the Fitness Guide website, in partnership with the Swiss Federation of Fitness and Health Centers (FSCFS), offers detailed information to help you choose your supplementary insurance.
Healty side
Chestnuts: A healthy, comforting gluten-free snack
With their aromatic sweetness, chestnuts not only warm the hands and stomach, they also warm the heart. Plump chestnuts, golden under their brown bark, are also very easy to prepare at home, in the oven.
The Hidden Benefits of Chestnuts: Energy and Vitality in Autumn
As autumn approaches, chestnuts prove to be an essential nutritional ally, perfect for boosting the energy of athletes and enriching our diet. This little marvel, rich in fiber, minerals and vitamins, is a concentrate of benefits for our organism, giving us the opportunity to rediscover it in a new light.
A Lasting Source of Energy: Rich in Natural Carbohydrates
With a moderate glycemic index of between 50 and 70, chestnuts provide continuous energy without a blood sugar spike, thanks to their fiber, which limits the rapid absorption of sugars. This carbohydrate level, coupled with the fiber, ensures a lasting feeling of satiety, helping to control snacking cravings. Its high energy content makes it ideal for those long autumn days, helping to keep energy levels up and light.
Digestive support: Fiber and intestinal balance
Chestnut fibers promote balanced transit and help stabilize blood sugar and fat levels, thanks to their moderating effect on nutrient absorption. By activating transit, they also improve the health of intestinal flora, reducing cravings and supporting a balanced diet.
An Anti-Aging Mineral Concentrate: Vitality and Protection
Rich in trace elements such as manganese, copper and iron, chestnuts protect cells against premature aging, strengthening the body's defenses against free radicals. These essential minerals also play a part in red blood cell production, cell function and nerve transmission, providing genuine support for autumn vitality.
Immunity boost with Vitamins B and C
Chestnuts are an excellent source of vitamins B1, B2, B6 and B9, which are involved in energy metabolism and nervous system function. Added to this is vitamin C, an antioxidant essential for bone and tissue health. It also enhances the absorption of plant-based iron, supporting the body in the face of seasonal challenges.
Recipe: Caramelized Chestnuts with Autumn Flavors
Ingredients:
- 500 g frozen chestnuts, peeled
- 100 g sugar
- 2 tablespoons water
- 2 tbsp. lemon juice
- ¼ tsp. salt
- 1 dl vegetable stock
- 2 tablespoons butter
Instructions :
- In a saucepan, bring the sugar, water, lemon juice and salt to the boil.
- Reduce the heat and allow the mixture to form a blond caramel.

- Stir in the butter just before serving.
Delicious with game or autumn vegetables!
